Little Lentil : 18 Weeks

It's the last final countdown for school before Christmas break, so things are a little hectic lately. I thought I'd pop in (a few days late!) to share my pregnancy update. Here are the facts for this week:

Week: Eighteen - two weeks to halfway!

What's going on inside: The baby is flexing their arms and legs. Their blood vessels are visible through their thin skin, and their ears are now in their final position, although they're still standing out from his head a bit. A protective covering of myelin is beginning to form around their nerves, a process that will continue for a year after they're born. If I'm having a girl, her uterus and fallopian tubes are formed and in place. If I'm having a boy, his genitals are noticeable now, enough for an ultrasound to show.

What's going on outside: I've been feeling really good lately. In the evenings, my back is really
temperamental - it kinks up and sometimes I need a little help off of the couch, chair or bed. It's not something that I can't deal with, though.

How big is that lentil? The baby is about the size of a sweet potato: almost 6" in length from head to bum. I can't believe that the baby is that large!

Total weight loss/gain: I'm down another couple of pounds. Want to lose weight? Get pregnant, lol. I'm down over twenty pounds, but as long as my ultrasound goes well in two weeks, everything is good.

Food cravings: I've been seriously craving protein, veggies and fresh fruit over the past week. I've been wanting a steak for forever, I think I may have to cave in and buy some or maybe go out for supper... :)

Best moment this week: I'm starting a countdown to our big ultrasound, which is on December 20th. As silly as it sounds, I know that everything will feel more real once I can see the little bean on the screen. Dan booked the time off from work, so he'll get to come with me and we can have a nice little afternoon date. :)

Happy Friday!
