Happy Halloween

From last year's work-dress-up

This year, we're eating homemade caramel apples, and heading to my mother-in-law's for my sis-in-law's birthday.

How are you celebrating?

Polyvore Loves

blog3

Today's Polyvore post is a cute little "dinner date" outfit. It's nice for this time of year - a comfy but eye-catching black knit sweater, a structured tweed skirt, and a pair of peep toes - with or without tights or hose. The clutch pushes the outfit from work wear into date territory, and sunglasses? Always a chic choice.

When I'm on Polyvore, I tend to pick items that catch my eye, and I don't bother with the prices. It is just for fun, after all. When I saw the price listings for these, though, I felt I had to share... I see the skirt - a little pricey for me, at $95. The shoes are a steal - $26! But uh-oh, the sweater is $261... the Chloe sunglasses are $309... and eeekers! The gorgeous clutch is Valentino - and $953!

I guess you could say I have expensive taste... maybe the dinner date should be at McDonalds. :)

Happy Thursday!

Monday Picks

Some things I've been enjoying on this lovely Monday evening:

These snickerdoodles.

I made a pumpkin pie for my sweet.
Not this one, of course... photo is from Smitten Kitchen.

Terrific day today:
  • A phone call from a darling friend: it was great to talk to you, Heid!
  • A day in the kitchen - cookies, pies, and a slow cooker supper.
  • Rearranged our bedroom - taking full advantage of the early morning sun
  • A trip to the mall and out for appetizers with a sweetie - it's so nice to have time to relax
  • Monday School (bible class) for the little ones - who were a little rowdy, but still fun
  • Relaxing all evening with my hubby - supper together, and working at the kitchen table together.
I'm off to organize our DVD collection, and there will be some snuggle time left with my sweet and my pup.

Happy Monday!

Yummers

Photo taken from Whole Food Family

I'm off to make a batch of yummy chocolate macaroons.

A lovely girl from work has the best recipe ever: I had a couple of the cookies in the spring and have been itching for her version ever since. They have the perfect balance of oats versus coconut, and the texture is amazing. She shared the recipe with me last week, and I hope that I'll be able to make them the exact way that she does.

Wish me luck :)

I'm a little late for my weekly Polyvore fun. I decided to make this week's Polyvore outfit one that would be similar to items in my closet. I basically own this entire outfit:

Argyle cardi - check
Ribbed tights - check
Dark wash jean skirt - check
Lightweight scarf - check
Tiny bow headband - check
Betseyville flats - check

The only thing that's missing from my closet is the purse - it's the exact colour and shape that I adore - a slouchy, semi-structured grey leather shoulder bag. I've been searching basically for about five or six months. The quest continues...

Hope you enjoy this peek into my closet.

Happy weekend!

Mini Shopping Spree

After a quick stroll through the mall today, I decided to take a little stop at Ricki's. I always adore their clothes, and they have a great sale on now - 50% off all clearance items!

I wanted to check out some clothes for work, and I made out well, if I do say so. I got a terrific blue blouse, along with a blue tank for underneath - great for under blazers or scoop-necked sweaters. I also got vest that I can wear casually, too, and a cute pair of high-waist trousers with a great wide leg fit.

Not bad - in total, I saved over $150! That's my kind of sale! If you're looking for some cute work or semi-casual clothes, Ricki's is a great place to look. Their sizes are right on target, but they are a little pricey for a "mall chain"... when they have sales, they are A-1!

(Disclaimer: Ricki's has no idea that I have a blog, and they have nothing to do with me sharing my positive experience... too bad - I might get some free stuff :)! )

This site is a blast - I just may do a weekly post of "outfits I wish I had". It's a fun interactive website that allows you to chose elements of an outfit, and play around with the layout - sizing, arrangement, front to back. You can search by category, colour, price, brand, or site. You can create an all-designer look, an actual practical set, or a combination of both - the sky's the limit. Remember, all of the items have links - you can order any item that you choose... guess who's birthday is coming up?

Enjoy.

Fall Faves

(A great fall print from Etsy seller Get The Picture)

The chill in the October air always makes me want to change up my routine. Here's a list of some of my favourite things for fall:

- Baking with cinnamon: I found this great recipe for Snickerdoodles on Smitten Kitchen today! They may be made before the week is up.

- Hot chocolate and herbal tea: Tazo Tea is my absolute favourite, especially Wild Sweet Orange. I just finished off my last one on the weekend. Time for a refill!

- Painting: I have a few that I've been meaning to work on all summer (sorry, guys!) I've been playing around with some watercolours a bit - the colours are so dreamy. Today's posting on Decor8 was really inspiring.

- Crafting for Christmas: time to start making gift tags, and I need to write a master gifting list. Last year I tried to have a "homemade Christmas" but left it a little too long. This year should run a little more smoothly.

- New hobbies: I'm determined to learn how to crochet, lefty or not. Screenprinting is also on my list. There are a few great tutorials out there that make it seem super simple.

- Pumpkin goodies: I'm planning on making a pumpkin cheesecake for my darling. He's a bit of a pumpkin fiend. These whoopie pies also look tasty!

- Lots of body lotion application and hair conditioning... prevent the oncoming winter dryness. Bath and Body Works came out with my new favourite lotion. We picked some up on vacation - I've got to order more online!

- And, of course, some home decor switch-ups... stay tuned for tomorrow's post!

Fashion Central

Happy Monday! Today I'm going to share a terrific site with you - I'm a little hooked. The Weardrobe website is an addiction. Anyone can submit their outfit for the day, and I think there's a chance to win prizes. Check it out. You won't regret it, and you'll feel super inspired :)

Headbands Galores

I've been eyeing up some gorgeous headbands online lately. They seem like a perfect accessory for fall - add one with a tidy (or messy, which is usually the case for me) hairdo and you are good to go - head out the door. I'm sure that any crafty gal could whip one of these puppies up, but with each of them ringing in at $10ish, it's hard not to just purchase one.

And, of course, the lovely Miss Elsie has a pretty offering:

Mmmm, mmmm. I want one of these. Now.
